Rachel Holzer

Rachel Holzer ( born November 8, 1899 in Krakow, † November 14, 1998 in Melbourne) was a Polish- Australian actress of the Yiddish theater and film.

Life

Holzer was born as the daughter of a painter and president of the Jewish Krakow Workers' Union. Six years old, she performed in the Yiddish theater. After her acting training and performances in Polish theaters, she moved in 1926 to the Yiddish theater. In 1927, she joined the famous Vilna Troupe. Later she moved to Warsaw and played for Ida Kaminska and the National Theatre. She played in 1936 in the first Yiddish talkie Al Khet a major role. In 1938, she left Poland for a world tour and eventually traveled to Australia with her sister.

Together with her ​​husband, the playwright Chaim Rozenstein, she lived in Melbourne, where she made ​​a significant contribution to the Yiddish theater there. In 1977, she sat down to rest.
