Rachid Mimouni

Rachid Mimouni (Arabic: رشيد ميموني ); ( Born November 20, 1945 in Boudouaou, † February 12, 1995 in Paris) was an Algerian writer, teacher and human rights activist.

Mimouni wrote novels about the Algerian society in a realistic style. He was threatened by militants, because he was going against a movement which he described as the basis of archaic notions that was, but not relevant in today's time.

Life

Rachid Mimouni came in Boudouaou as a child of a poor family to the world. He studied natural sciences at the University of Algeria and Montreal, before he became a teacher at the École supérieure du commerce business school. He was president of Kateb Yacine Foundation. In 1993 he fled from Algeria to France to escape the civil war and the killings of intellectuals. In 1995 he died of hepatitis in Paris.
