Radio Maryja

History and distribution

The station was founded on 8 December 1991 by the Polish Redemptorist priest and media mogul Tadeusz Rydzyk. First broadcasts were held in spring 1992. The transmitter responds with the words: "This is Radio Maria, the Catholic voice in your house. Praised be Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. " According to self-reported data, the program of six priests, three nuns and 200 lay helpers is produced and funded by donations and sponsors. The program consists mainly of prayers such as the rosary and hymns, which are supplemented by reports, commentary and listener hours. In the talks will be discussed with representatives of the church, politics, economy and culture.

Via satellite is Radio Maria to receive in other European countries and the USA. On the official website there is a link to live streaming, which makes it possible to listen to the station via the Internet.

Radio Maria is not a member of the global conveyor Association of Radio Maria family of channels, which currently consists of about 50 stations in 40 countries.

2005, the market share of the transmitter in Poland stood at 2.34 percent and fell to 2008 to 1.78 per cent. Criticism of Radio Maria

Political Influence

The broadcaster is accused that he sided and partisan meddling in politics. The Polish conservative Catholic parties, such as Law and Justice ( PiS) and the League of Polish Families (LPR ) were supported in the election campaign. Anti-Semitism

Misappropriation of donations

In the years 1997 and 1998 several million zloty were collected in donations without the appropriate permission of the Interior Ministry, which were intended for saving the shipyard of Gdansk. Surreptitious

Relationship with the Vatican
