Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics

The Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics ( RTCA ) is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC (USA).

It makes recommendations for communications, navigation and surveillance of air traffic management (CNS / ATM).

The RTCA serves as a " federal advisory committee " ( Federal Advisory Committee ) in the USA. Its recommendations will be partially taken over by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA) and Others and by private individuals. The "Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification" DO- 178B has been declared, for example, by the FAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA ) for the software development for aircraft for binding.

The European equivalent of the RTCA is the European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment EUROCAE or short. Usually, EUROCAE and RTCA work closely together. Some documents, such as the document DO- 160 (ED -14), which deals with environmental influences from the environment ( eg lightning, immunity) on electronics, are jointly developed. The document DO- 160 is understood in the aviation industry as a minimum requirement for protection of avionics to environmental influences including the discipline of electromagnetic compatibility.
