Rainerius

Rainer von Pisa (San Ranieri, Pisa * 1100, † 1160 in Pisa) is a saint.

His Catholic Memorial Day is celebrated on June 17. The name means suspected: Council and Heer ( althochdt. ). Rainer was a hermit, he is patron of the city of Pisa.

Rainer lived in his youth a life with all worldly pleasures, then he withdrew as a hermit. He chose a life of penance and mortification. A legend tells of how he unmasked a Weinpanscher. During two pilgrimages to the Holy Land, he lived only by charitable gifts. Rainer's body rests, still incorrupt, in the cathedral at Pisa in a glass shrine.
