Raja Rao

Raja Rao ( born November 8, 1908 in Hassan, Mysore, India, † July 8, 2006 in Austin, Texas) was an Indian novelist.

Life

Raja Rao was born in a Brahmin family. After successful studies at the Nizam 's College in Hyderabad and the Islamic University in 1929 he went to France, where he studied in Montpellier and the Sorbonne. In 1939 he returned to India. After 1948 he lived alternately in India, Europe and the USA. From 1966 to 1980 he taught at the University of Austin, Texas, Indian philosophy and Buddhism.

Rao along with Mulk Raj Anand is true and RK Narayan as the founder of English fiction in India. In his first novel Kanthapura of 1938, he presented the struggle for independence against the British from the perspective of a South Indian village dar. His last work was a biography of Mahatma Gandhi; it was published in 1998 under the title Great Indian Way.
