Rally of the French People

The Rassemblement du peuple français ( Rally of the French people ), short RPF, was a party founded in 1947 by the French military and politician Charles de Gaulle.

Objectives

The party was all his followers, the Gaullists connect. However, since very soon arose disputes within the party, they soon did not have enough strength in Parliament.

History

On April 7, 1947 directed General de Gaulle in Strasbourg an appeal to the French, it was time to form a movement which seeks to rescue and far-reaching reform of the state within the framework of laws. On 18 June, the foundation of the political party was announced. Between 1947 and 1953, the RPF took part in all major elections and as the Communist Party, one of the two main opposition forces of the Fourth Republic. When the targets were not achieved, put de Gaulle in 1953 disappointed his RPF activities with the words: Voici venir la faillite of illusions. Il faut le préparer recours ( " Here comes the collapse of illusions. Who must prepare a way out. " ) Shelved. There followed a logical consequence, the RPF was dissolved. Thereupon, the founder Charles de Gaulle pulled for the time being all the way back from the political and public life.
