Ramanathaswamy Temple

The Ramanathaswami Temple is the main temple Rameswarams in India.

The temple, whose oldest parts date back to the 12th century, is located in the center of the village close to the sea shore. It covers an area of ​​six hectares and consists of a complex of several shrines, temples, halls and pillared corridors. The east entrance is crowned by a 38 meter high gopuram ( gate-tower ), rises above the entrance to the west, a lower Gopuram.

The temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines. In addition, the temple is one of the four temples the Char Dham.
