Ramón de Campoamor y Campoosorio

Ramón de Campoamor y Campoosorio (* September 24 1817 in Navia ( Asturias ), † February 11, 1901 in Madrid ) is a Spanish politician and poet of realism.

Life

Ramón de Campoamor was born in Asturias, the son of Miguel Pérez Campoamor, a wealthy farmer; his mother was from the noble family of the Campo Osorio. At the age of 15 he went to Santiago de Compostela to study philosophy, logic and mathematics. An begun in Madrid to study medicine, he broke off soon. He began comedies and writing poetry and devoted himself to philosophy of positivism. Late 1840s he began his career as a politician in the Partido Moderado. In 1847 he was civil governor of the province of Castellón and a little later of Alicante. In 1850 he took a position as a deputy in the Congreso de los a Deputies. From 1851 to 1854 he was civil governor of the province of Valencia, later State under Alfonso XII. and member of the Real Academia Española. He died in Madrid at the age of 83 years.

Work

Ramón de Campoamor belonged to the 20th century to the Spanish educational canon of conservative bourgeoisie. He wrote poems mainly in the form of aphorisms, but also comedies and ( popular) philosophical works.
