Ramón Javier Mestre

Javier Ramón Mestre ( born July 2, 1972 in Córdoba) is an Argentine politician of the Unión Cívica Radical. Since 2011 he has held the office of the mayor of Córdoba.

Biography

Mestre is the son of Ramón Bautista Mestre UCR politician, who was mayor from 1983-1991 and 1995-1999 Córdoba governor of the province of Córdoba. Therefore, he is also known as Ramón Mestre hijo ( son).

He studied law at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, and in 1996 gained the title of lawyer. Later he attended the master's degree program in law for the regulation of public services in the Universidad Austral de Buenos Aires and a postgraduate course trading standards in Madrid.

In the UCR Mestre obtained in 1995 the post of president of the Movimiento de Participación y Renovación the youth wing of the UCR in Córdoba. Other regional party offices followed. 2007 Mestre met for the first time as a candidate for mayor in Cordoba, but failed against Daniel Giacomino. Between 2007 and 2009 he won a seat on the City Council of Córdoba, in 2009 he gained a seat in the Argentine Senate, which he occupied until 2011.

In the election on 18 September 2011 Mestre was elected with 35.65 % of the vote for mayor of Córdoba.
