Ramón Puerta

Federico Ramón Puerta ( born September 9, 1951 in Apóstoles, Misiones Province, Argentina) is an Argentine politician. He has been from 21 to 22 December 2001, just two days President of Argentina.

Ramón Puerta was at this time a provisional President of the Argentine Senate, the upper house of the Argentine National Congress. The Argentine Constitution provides that in the event that the President can not exercise his office, the Vice President into office accepts. After Fernando de la Rúa resigned from the office of the President on 21 December 2001, the Vice President would have had to assume the office. Vice President Carlos Alvarez but he resigned in October 2000 and since then the post was vacant. The next in line was the Constitution Ramón Puerta, the then Chairman of the Senate. He was overwhelmed with this task from the beginning and happy as he could pass the presidential sash from Adolfo Rodríguez Saa the next day. When that but his hand just a few days later, on December 30, resigned as president, Puerta was forced to withdraw themselves even from his post as chairman of the Senate; one hand, for health reasons, on the other hand to prevent the president falls back on him. In its place was Eduardo Camaño briefly President ( from 31 December 2001 to 1 January 2002); was succeeded by Eduardo Duhalde.

Ramón Puerta was between 1991 and 1999 twice governor of the Argentine province of Misiones and deputy of the Chamber of Deputies before he became a senator.
