Ramsay Richard Reinagle

Ramsay Richard Reinagle ( born March 19, 1775 in London, † November 17, 1862 ibid ) was an English portrait, landscape and animal painter.

Life

The son of the painter Philip Reinagle, who was taught by his father, had his first exhibition thirteen years old in 1788 at the Royal Academy of Arts. After study trips to Rome ( 1796) and Holland he became a member of the panorama painter Robert Barker at London's Leicester Square. He later ( until 1816 ) Landscape and city panoramas from Italy, France and Spain with Barker's son, Thomas Edward Barker.

In 1806 he became a member of the Society of Painters in Watercolours, as its president, he served from 1808 to 1812. In addition, he presented further out in the Royal Academy. In 1814 he became a candidate, member of the Academy in 1823. He painted a few portraits, but was mainly through landscape paintings from Italy and England known as Loughbrigg Mountain and River Brathy, near Ambleside - Sunset ( 1808, owned by the Tate Gallery).

He also worked as a picture restorer and copyist of the works of old masters. In 1848 he sent to the Royal Academy a painting Joseph W. Yarnolds that he had changed only slightly, as his own and then lost his diploma as a member. He still could but until 1857 issue further here and received a pension at the age of the Academy. Also Reinagle sisters Charlotte and Fanny found recognition as landscape painters. His brother PA Reinagle exhibited paintings of horses and landscapes at the Royal Academy. His son was a marine painter George Philip Reinagle.

Works Reinagle are, inter alia, to owned by the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge University, the National Gallery and the Royal Academy, the Courtauld Institute of Art and the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Huntington Library.
