Ranald MacDougall

Ranald MacDougall ( born March 10, 1915 in Schenectady, New York, USA, † December 12, 1973 in Los Angeles, California, USA) was an American screenwriter, film director and producer.

Biography

He began his career as an usher at Radio City Music Hall before he began as a writer to work for NBC Radio. 1944 Warner Bros. became aware of MacDougall, where a year later, in 1945, wrote the screenplay for Mildred Pierce. Although it was only his second script, the 31-year old MacDougall in 1946 nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award in the category.

But MacDougall, who as a producer, and from 1955 worked as a director since 1948, will probably always go with his screenplay for the 1963 film Cleopatra history produced in the history of film, which he co-authored with Joseph L. Mankiewicz and Sidney Buchman.

MacDougall in 1971 was elected president of the Writers Guild of America. He held the position until his death.

Ranald MacDougall was married from 1957 to actress Nanette Fabray, both had a child together. He died of natural causes, at the age of 58 years.
