Rancho Palos Verdes is a city in Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California, United States, with 42,500 inhabitants ( 2004). The city was registered on 7 September 1973. The metropolitan area has a size of 35.4 km ² and is located on the tip of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Neighboring municipalities, in addition to Los Angeles, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Palos Verdes Estates and Lomita. The city is known for its views to the Pacific Ocean. The most important main geographical features are the Palos Verdes Hills and cliffs with beautiful views of the Santa Catalina Iceland.

The planned Lloyd Wright Wayfarers Chapel is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

The city is served by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.
