Randan, Puy-de-Dôme

Randan is a commune with 1562 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Auvergne region. It lies about 14 km south-southwest of Vichy. Randan is the capital of the eponymous canton Randan. Jean Jacques Mathillon is since 2001 the Mayor of Randan.

Castle Randan

The origin of the castle Randan goes back to the year 1204. It was built on the site of a former monastery of the 6th century by Beaudoin de Randan.

In 1821, Madame Adélaïde d' Orléans bought, sister of the Citizen-King Louis -Philippe I, the castle and had it completely renovated by the famous architect Pierre -François- Léonard Fontaine. Randan is the last Good Royal, which was built in France and one of the few that are located in the province.

In the night of 24 to 25 July 1925, the castle Randan one was destroyed by fire. The circumstances of the fire were never fully explained. In the 10-hectare park today one can still see the remains of the castle, the spacious kitchen equipment, the chapel and the Orangerie discover. It is planned to restore the castle.
