Ranganathan Francis

Ranganathan Francis ( * March 15, 1920, also Ranganandhan Francis ) was an Indian hockey player. He is next to Richard James Allen is the only goalkeeper among the seven hockey players to have won three Olympic gold medals.

At the Olympic Games in 1948 Francis was goalkeeper for Leo Pinto. 1952 in Helsinki he was in the final against the Netherlands in the gate, the Indians won the game 6-1. On his third Olympic gold medal in Melbourne in 1956 he was second goalkeeper behind Shankar Laxman.

Francis was a very good technician who came out far in attacks of the Indian team from scoring and acted as a defender.
