Richard Allen (field hockey)

Richard James Allen ( born June 4, 1902 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, † 1969 in Bangalore, Karnataka ) was an Indian hockey player. In addition to Dhyan Chand, he was involved as the only players on the first three Olympic victories of India.

At the Olympic Games in 1928, 1932 and 1936, Allen was as a goalkeeper in the Indian team, respectively. In 1928, he remained in all five games without conceding a goal of his team. 1932 played Arthur Charles Hind in the game against the Japanese in the gate, when he had to 11:1 allow the first goal of the Indians. Allen was in the match against the United States in the gate and also suffered a goal at 24:1. 1936 Allen was four times used and got a goal in the final against the German team, India won the match 8:1.

Allen was married and had three children.
