Ranunculus peltatus

Shield water crowfoot (Ranunculus peltatus ssp. Peltatus, with floating leaves )

The shield - water crowfoot (Ranunculus peltatus ) is a plant of the family Ranunculaceae ( Ranunculaceae ). It comes as a water plant in moderately nutrient-rich waters ( for species group of white-flowered Wasserhahnenfußarten see for example, Ordinary water crowfoot ).

Identifying

The submerged leaves of the plate - water crowfoot are shared hair -shaped, the floating leaves, however, are three to siebenlappig and kidney-shaped. The stipules are obovate and are more than 3/4 fused with the petiole.

The projecting, sloping sepals are about 3-6 mm long. The approximately 6 to 15 mm long, white petals meet each other and have characteristic pear ( subsp. peltatus ) or crescent ( subsp. baudotii ) nectar glands on. The flower stalks are to bloom more than 5 cm long and considerably longer than the opposing petiole.

The species is diploid to hexaploid; their chromosome number is 2n = 16, 32 or 48

Occurrence

The shield - water crowfoot inhabited shallow, standing or slowly flowing, meso-to eutrophic waters. You can observe this in Europe from south to north, in the east it is missing almost completely. But the main focus of proliferation located in the coastal areas.

Subspecies

In Europe, there are three or four subspecies:

  • Brackwasserhahnenfuß (Ranunculus peltatus subsp baudotii ( Godron ) Meikle ex CDK Cook; Syn. Ranunculus baudotii Godron ), arrives in Europe in the south and west before, especially in coastal areas and avoids the East; This subspecies is a tetraploid with chromosome number 2n = 32
  • Ranunculus peltatus subsp. fucoides ( Freyn ) Muñoz Garmendia ( syn.. Ranunculus fucoides Freyn; R. saniculifolius Viv; R. aquatilis subsp saniculifolius ( viv ) O. Bolos & Vigo. ), comes in Europe only in the south; this subspecies is diploid with 2n = 16 Chromosomemzahl
  • True Shield water crowfoot (Ranunculus peltatus subsp peltatus. ), Arrives in Europe from the south, west and north, especially in the coastal areas; the subspecies is diploid, tetraploid or hexaploid with the chromosome numbers 2n = 16, 32 or 48
  • Ranunculus peltatus subsp. sphaerospermus ( Boiss. & Blanche ) Meikle ( syn.. Ranunculus sphaerospermus Boiss & Blanche ), comes on the Balkan Peninsula, in the Near East and North Africa.
