The Rappeneck is a mountain in the southern Black Forest, with an elevation of 1010.3 meters above sea level. NHN. It lies between the top of Schauinsland ( 1284 m above sea level. NHN ) in the south, the Dreisamtal in the north, the municipality Oberried the east and Kappler valley to the west.

Sports and Leisure Facilities

The Rappeneck is developed through an extensive network of hiking trails. In 1995, the Rappeneck was the starting point of the downhill competition the Mountain Bike World Championships in nearby Kirchzarten.

The Rappenecker hut

On the top of Rappenecks is the Rappenecker hut, which represents Europe's first solar-powered restaurant. The existing since the 17th century, Grade II listed Rappenecker courtyard, a typical black forest, 1987 provided by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems Freiburg im Breisgau with a photovoltaic system. Together with a wind turbine and a fuel cell ( from 2003) is the hut that has never been connected to the public power supply network which supplies exclusively from renewable energy sources.
