Râșnov

Rasnov ( Rosenau German, Hungarian Barcarozsnyó ) is a small town in the district of Brasov in Transylvania, Romania. In 2003, the city had 16,242 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Rasnov is located in southeastern Transylvania, on the European road 574 in the middle of Burzenlandes. The county capital Braşov (Kronstadt ) is located about 18 kilometers northeast of Rasnov away.

Attractions

Peasant fortress

Worth mentioning is the peasant castle which housed numerous houses, stables and a small church. It was built by the Teutonic Order in 1215 and was first mentioned in documents in 1331. It is located halfway between the city of Braşov and Bran Castle. The castle was used only once, by Gabriel Báthory around 1600.

For the 1623-1640 at the castle 80 fathoms ( about 140 meters) deep well, a legend says that for the construction of which 17 years were needed and was of two prisoners, Turkish soldiers erected. For the construction of the well to the captives deliverance was promised. The fountain was used until 1850 and given up due to Radbruches.

Ski Jump

The four ski jumps Trambulina Valea Cărbunării, 15 meters, 35 meters, 64 meters and 90 meters, were built in 2012 and inaugurated on November 17. Beginning of 2013 took place here the first European Youth Olympic Festival ( Festivalul Olimpic al Tineretului European ) held in Romania.

Attractions

Other popular destinations include the Bran Castle, the ski resort of Poiana Braşov ( Poiana ), the National Park in Piatra Craiului Mountain ( Königstein Mountains ) and the Prahova Valley with the resorts in Predeal and Sinaia.
