Rathscafé (Bremen)

The Rath Café, today Deutsches Haus, Bremen is in a Grade II listed building at Bremen's market square, Am Markt No. 1 and No. 1 Hakenstraße It is part of the monument ensembles Am Markt 1 to 21

History

At the corner of Bremer Buy / Liebfrauenkirchhof or upper road stood an urban wine house, which received a Renaissance gable later in the Middle Ages. The building was still in the 17th century as a wine cellar. It then went into private hands and was rebuilt several times. In 1900, a lingerie shop was located here. It was then bought by the city of Bremen and demolished for a new building.

Rath Café

Due to its immediate proximity to the Bremen City Hall, the building project was therefore in a richly -wide competition advertised. Winner of the architectural competition was the young Bremen architect Rudolf Jacobs. According to his plans was the four-storey building with a gabled roof from 1909 to 1911 at the market place, then called Kaiser Wilhelm-Platz. Jacobs managed a highly acclaimed by the art building. It is of great importance for the urban marketplace and for the opposing Our Loves Women Cemetery.

The building from the turn of the century architectural epoch corresponded in terms of its scale and design of the homeland security architecture and reform architecture. The gable permanent group of three houses, as " document altbremischer art and culture" is, for exterior and interior furnished with original pieces from salvage operations, collections and acquisitions as the outer stone gable jewelry that Utluchten of the 18th century and the portals and inside the two floors of the 18th century.

Deutsches Haus

The heavily damaged in World War II was Eckhaus 1950/51 by the architect Herbert rebuilt anchor by the company Paul Kossel diagnosis- almost true. The former market floorboards were now called Buergerstuben and some of the rooms still Rath parlors. The building was the German brother help. In 1995, the building complex with the associated building house on the market by the Bremen architect Christian Bock Holt (office BPG ) has been completely revitalized. The outmoded catering areas on the upper floors were, inter alia, converted into office space and apartments. The premises of the industry - Club Bremen eV were renewed again in 2008 and completely modernized. Since 2007, the building is owned by the Körber Foundation. In the restaurant currently Beck 's is on the market.

The inscription in large letters is since 1955 the market side with the exhortation of Wilhelm Kaisen:

The inscription was awarded in March 2011 for one year for an exhibition at the House of History in Bonn.

The Coat of Arms Stein at gables is a replica of an old original of the Great Bremen coat of arms on the Rick Merschen estate in Horn.

Components of other buildings

The following groups of other broken Bremen town houses have been reinstalled on Rath Café: The portal of the late Renaissance in 1660 on the hook Strasse 1 was used in 1909; on the market side of the houses Ausluchten Deep # 35 (right) and Behind Schütting No. 8 ( left); the bay window of the house on the corner of the Pelzer Road No. 6 and No. 8 by Brill; the bay window of the middle house of Balgebrückstraße No. 33; the gable of the corner house on the road from the hook Wachtstrasse No 17, which was canceled in 1894.

Conservation

In 1973 the Town Café, today Deutsches Haus, declared a National Monument. See also: List of cultural monuments in Bremen-Mitte.
