Geography

The place is located in the west of the country, about 3 kilometers from the Austrian border.

Geographical Location

The village is situated on the western edge of the Pannonian Plain, on the left bank of the Raab.

History

Rátót was originally a farm, which belonged to Gasztony and was first mentioned in 1428 as ' Rathodfolua. 1865 bought József Szell here a good. His son Kálmán built the estate to a prestigious castle and led here a model farm with livestock ( " Simmental shock ").

In 1910 the city counted 358 inhabitants.

The castle survived the Second World War almost unscathed. The extensive library of the castle was almost completely lost in the ensuing years. From time to time was the cultural center lock, then school. 2003, converted into a hotel and since 2011 has four stars.

Rátót is on the railway line Szombathely - Szentgotthárd ( Fehring ), which is part of the Hungarian Western Railway, and on the state road 8 ( European route 66).
