Raúl Arellano

Raúl Arellano ( born February 28, 1935 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, † October 12, 1997 ) was a Mexican footballer, who played 1953-1964 for Chivas Guadalajara and part of the legendary team that played in the nine years 1957-1965 seven Mexican champion and was given the nickname " Campeonísimo ". He was also known by his nickname " La Pina".

Career

Arellano was striker and for many years a regular for his hometown club Chivas Guadalajara, for whom he was eleven years, before he could finish his career with the CD Tampico.

" La Pina" made ​​his international debut on December 27, 1953 against Haiti ( 4-0) and belonged to the squad of the Mexican National Team, who traveled to the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland. Although the group consisted of four teams played in this World Cup not all teams from the same group against each other. So it came that Mexico only two games completed, both of which were lost: 0:5 and 2:3 against Brazil against France. Arellano played both games on the side of Tomás Balcázar, with whom he formed the attacking duo in the club in those days. But in the national team remained Arellano, who came in seven years, only nine international appearances, hapless and not scored a single goal.

Raúl Arellano died on 12 October 1997 when he was run over in his hometown by a car.
