The airfield Ravenna (it: Aeroporto di Ravenna " Gastone Novelli " ) is located in the Italian region Emilia -Romagna, about five kilometers south of the city center of Ravenna.

Infrastructure and use

Located close to the Adriatic coast airfield has a running 1200 meters long, in east-west direction of take-off and landing runway (08 /26). A short taxiway connects the landing threshold 08 with the located in the southwest of the run and its terminal facilities. The airport serves general aviation. Operator is the local Aero Club, which also runs a flight school here. In addition, are at the airfield also other air sports clubs located.

History

The airfield was opened in Ravenna as a military airfield in 1916 and later named after the fighter pilot Gastone Novelli, who was killed in a 1919 accident. In the 1950s ended the military use, whereupon the Aero Club Ravenna of the airfield and took until 1962 had built the 1200 -meter-long asphalt runway. Also, maintenance hangars and other smaller facilities were built. Over time we organized some air sports events locally. A further extension (for passenger airport Ravenna ) was not considered, since it several other airfields and airports are in the area, including the approximately 25 kilometers south to Forli airport.
