Ray Evans

Raymond Bernard Evans ( born February 4, 1915 in Salamanca, New York, † February 15, 2007 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American songwriter.

Together with his partner Jay Livingston he wrote in the fifties numerous songs for films, among other things, Whatever Will Be, Will Be, which was primarily known as Que Sera, Sera. Also for the television series Bonanza and Mr. Ed wrote the duo the theme songs.

Awards

Livingston and Evans were nominated in the years 1946, 1958, 1959 and 1965 for an Oscar for best song. They won this award three times: in 1949 for the song Buttons and Bows in the film The Paleface; 1951 for the song Mona Lisa in the film Captain Carey, USA and 1956 for the song Que Sera, Sera in the movie The Man Who Knew Too Much.

The song Mona Lisa in 1987 also received the ASCAP Award for Most Performed Feature Film Standard on TV, the songs Silver Bells from The Lemon Drop Kid ( 1951) and Que Sera Sera in 1990 with the ASCAP Award for Most Performed Feature film standard.

The duo was founded in 1958 for the musical Oh, Captain! also nominated for a Tony Award.
