Reading railway station

Reading is a major railway station in the town of Reading, west of London. It lies at the northern end of the city center, about five minutes from the shopping and business center, close to the Thames River.

Attached is a bus station with urban and regional connections and the bus RailAir to the airport at London Heathrow.

Reading is an important transfer point within the British railway network. There is also a considerable local traffic, especially towards London.

History

The station was opened in 1840 as a temporary terminus of the Great Western Main Line. Already in 1841 the route to Bristol was built along more compounds from Reading were opened in the following years. 1860 a new station building was erected, which is still available today. 1989 opened directly next to a new reception building, which is used to transport passengers today.

Transport links

The main route is the Great Western Main Line from London Paddington to Oxford and Bristol. The route is expanded to four tracks and not electrified. The operational management is carried out by the First Great Western Railway Company. Other trails lead north to Birmingham and south to Winchester, Southampton and Bournemouth. A side road leads to Guildford and London Gatwick Airport.

After London Paddington run numerous trains, in particular, the long-distance trains between Reading and Paddington not hold and the 58 km to cover in about 30 minutes.
