Background information

Since releasing his debut album I Created Disco Harris worked at its successor, for which he recorded the first song in 2008. The new album was recorded under similar conditions. Harris saved all recordings on a laptop at home. The technical equipment this time, however, was more modern. The laptop with the stored recordings but was allegedly lost in the chaos of the opening of the new terminal at London's Heathrow Airport, so Harris had to start over with the work, which meant re-record or einzusingen all songs. Later, however, he admitted to have received the luggage shortly after the loss again. Also, the computer had never been in the luggage. In his defense, he said: " My label wanted the album, I had at the time but only two songs ready. There is now but turned out really good ... I knew I had to somehow make people pay attention to me. To show that I'm still alive, that I am my label has not dropped and I'm at work for the second plate. So I thought about this story, my press lady at Columbia she immediately found great. So we put it in my MySpace blog, and a lot of newspapers wrote it off. "

The album shows some changes in Harris Sound. Where the previous album were almost exclusively used synthesizers and Harris vocals as instruments, are now found an acoustic guitar as in Relax or Worst Day, but also a saxophone that is used in The Rain, the musical accompaniment of the individual pieces. Harris said: " The songs are more varied this time. On the last album we knew after two to three tracks, what to expect. Here, the bandwidth is much larger and more interesting. My first album was almost like a concept album with exactly one clearly targeted. This time I 've used so many different instruments as possible. "Like its predecessor, some instrumental pieces from the album, including Burns Night and Siliconeator.

In an interview with Der Spiegel, he explained the idea behind his number-one single I'm Not Alone. On the question whether the text line If I see a light flashing, could this mean that I'm coming home? handle a club of the strobe lights, he replied: "Actually, I had a ride alone in a boat in mind. "

Reception

Critics recorded the album quite positive. Karim Chughtai, editor of sound, described the album as a convincing " mixture of characteristic Synthiestakkati and trendy electro bass [ ... ] Calvin Harris knows his craft course. Drawn unerringly a balancing act between verkaufskalkuliertem pop business and dance tracks, which also work in clubs outside the mainstream [ ... ] Due to some slip-ups in the plains of pop monotony loses the album charm, though actually everything starts properly [ ... ] Two No. 1 blockbuster testify but only from the true quality of Harris '. The great I'm Not Alone turns out to be against the party animals, the glamorous hedonism and excesses of Calvin 's laws as thoughtful, vulnerable confession of the artist, sung as a wonderful and imbued with ravigen synthesizers with long - tail pop [ ... ] The Calvinsche concept - Dance capability and console Art - going to definitely presents itself instrumental versatile and sounds despite strong pop appeal actually pretty good. "

Matthias Reichel of CDStarts criticized the album for the lack of innovation: " Whoever expects a colorful electro-pop mix, unfortunately, must be disappointed. The sound of Calvin Harris and is still very stringent rooted in dance and up to a few chill-out moments of Scot pulls his thing through to the end. This is how subtle bonds to sneak a 70s disco sounds that are well interwoven with the generally quite modern sound. That should be sufficient for the target group as an incentive. The Popfan is, however, not be quite so happy with the album. "
