Ready-to-wear

Prêt -à -porter [ pʀɛtapɔʀte ] 's fashion clothes, which, as the literal translation from the French says, "Ready to Wear " is. Under Wear finished apparel refers to clothing that was in contrast to the Haute Couture not only created for the catwalk and models, but comes in standard sizes and in the final state to the market. Analogously means prêt -à -porter about as much as clothing or "off the shelf " - which term is usually used in conjunction with the designs and look great fashion houses and thus bears no pejorative connotation as a commodity. In English, also the equally significant concept ready- to-wear (German, ready to wear ') will be used.

As the founder of the prêt-à- porter fashion applies Pierre Cardin.

Some fashion houses or fashion designers create ready- to-wear product lines that are mass produced industrially. In other these products are still very exclusive and are only produced in limited numbers and only for a certain time. In contrast to the haute couture, it never involves, however, to single items and never to pieces that are designed only to generate attention to fashion shows.

Often, the collections are even manufactured in upscale fashion houses in a private studio. Also many of them are exhibited and presented at fashion shows. However, there are only a few companies that are still producing in Germany. These companies sell their collections, especially abroad.
