Realsoft 3D

Real Soft 3D (formerly Real 3D ) is a 3D modeling, animation and raytracing program that was developed by Real Soft Graphic Oy, Finland, for the Amiga home computer and later for Linux, IRIX, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows.

The first few lines of program text written in 1983 by the two brothers Juha and Vesa Meskanen on a Commodore 64. The development of Real 3D did not start until 1985, when Juha Meskanen began his studies at the Technical University of Lahti, Finland. Juha's brother Vesa joined in the development of the program and finished his college career in 1989 to found the company Realsoft Oy. The first commercial Real-3D version was released in the same year for the Amiga, with features such as Constructive Solid Geometry ( Constructive Solid Geometry ), support for soft, curved surfaces of quadrics and a photorealistic ray tracer. Version 1.2, released in 1990, was sold in several European countries. Version 1.4 was released in December 1991. It was the last version that came from the original Real - 3D code.

Real 3D won two years later, in 1993, with the from scratch developed version 2 of maturity. The new code base allowed features such as Boolean operations, CSG primitives, B- splines, physics-based simulation and animation, based on morphing animation techniques and great image quality with the calculated images. It took advantage of the multitasking capabilities of the Amiga and allowed so that the user could edit a scene, while at the same time an image was calculated. Version 2 was also the first version that was ported to Windows and released in 1994.

Version 3.5, released in 1996, was the last version that was based on the program architecture of the source code of version 2. Real Soft Oy launched a new, large software development project in 1994. The project drew an elaborate new version of the complete source code by yourself, with object-oriented design, platform independence of the source code, modularity, and the acquisition of various modern software development methods.

Version 4 was published in 2000. With this publication, the product was renamed Real Soft 3D. Although version 4 was released for several platforms (Windows, Linux, IRIX ), followed by a new Amiga version more.

The next major version jump was to version 4.5 in 2002, changes were eg caustics and global illumination.

Version 5, released in October 2004, expanded the range of functions in all program areas, also were in the GUI icons with 32 -bit color support.

The current version 6 was released in 2007. Was introduced a tool for parametric generation of plant models (L- System), and a tool for easy creation of buildings, it has also been issued a version for Mac OS X and versions for 64 -bit counterparts of Linux and Windows. These calculated images much faster than the 32 -bit versions because Realsoft 3D internally expects 64 -bit color channels, and can output them in a separate IFF format.
