Rebirth Brass Band

The Rebirth Brass Band is a brass band in New Orleans. They mix traditional marching band traditions in New Orleans Funk, Soul, Hip- Hop, Rhythm & Blues and Jazz. It is one of the leading modern brass bands in New Orleans.

It was founded in 1983 from a marching band of St. Joseph Clark Senior High School in the Tremé neighborhood of New Orleans by the brothers Philip Frazier (tuba, sousaphone ) and Keith Frazier (bass drum) and Kermit Ruffins of (trumpet ). In 1994, Ruffin left the band and formed his own brass band (Barbecue Swingers ). Other members were the trumpeter Shamarr Allen.

The band plays when she is not on tour, regularly on Tuesday nights in the Maple Leaf Bar in the Carrollton neighborhood in the Oak Street.

They released their first album in 1984 Here to Stay! at Arhoolie Records, the 1989 more albums with Rounder Records followed ( first Feel like funkin it up ). 2008, they released their 25th Anniversary Alum on their own label. Their album Rebirth of New Orleans ( Basin Street Records 2011) received a Grammy Award in 2012 for Best Regional Roots Music Album. They tour regularly in North America and Europe and regularly play at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival since they of the jazz Promoterin Allison Miner were managed in the 1980s.
