Rebmann Glacier

The Rebmann Glacier is a glacier near the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and is only a small remnant of the vast ice cap that once crowned the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This icecap has retreated significantly in the last century and lost 1912-2000, 82 percent of glacial ice on the mountain. The Rebmann Glacier is named after a native of Gerlingen German missionary and explorer Johannes Rebmann, who was the first white explorers in 1848, who saw the Kilimanjaro, and reported by him as well as from snow and glaciers on Kilimanjaro. Rebmann lived 1846 - 1875 without interruption in East Africa, where his wife Emma and Tyler 1854 his only son Samuel - at the age of five days - died

The glacier drained by mountain streams to Jipe Lake in the river system of the Pangani.
