Receptacle (botany)

As a floral axis or Receptaculum the stem axis is referred to in the Botany of the section carrying the organs of flowering ( ie sepals, petals, ovary, etc.). He is the direct continuation of the peduncle.

The internodes of the floral axis are often compressed to a base of the flower on which the flower organs are sitting. This can be beaded, disc-shaped flat, tail -shaped, pitcher -shaped ( eg Rose) or tapered curved (eg strawberry). At the maturity of the strawberry flower base forms a juicy fleshy berry note.

Is the base of the flower cup or tube- shaped, it is called hypanthium.
