The Klinikum rechts der Isar is the University Hospital of the Technical University of Munich TUM in Munich's Haidhausen.

History

Today's Hospital was founded in 1834 as Haidhauser arms and hospital with 36 beds in a former cafe and 1840 by the Sisters of Charity of St.. Vincent adopted by Paul and performed for 130 years. With the incorporation to Munich renaming came into hospital rechts der Isar - it directs the still common abbreviation MRI, which stands for the Isar ( hospital) Munich right. It was now possible to supply capable of up to 159 patients, one in 1866 for the first time separated into members of the surgical and internal department. By 1902, the population increase was increased to 736 beds under the strong pressure of which at the end of World War II, only 200 were accounted for. In March 1954, as part of a comprehensive hospital development plan of the city of Munich hospital 'Rechts der Isar back up and expanded.

In 1967 the hospital was eventually partly thanks to Georg Maurer at a University Hospital. It was given the status of University Hospital of the Technical University of Munich, later the Technische Universität München ( TUM) and has been extended to a lecture hall. Since then, the hospital will be continuously expanded and modernized.

Since July 2003, the hospital is a legally independent institution under public law.

For world's great stir caused the successful transplant of two complete arms in June 2008, in which about 40 doctors were involved. Two years later, the healing process of the patient is so far advanced that hands and fingers moved back and can be used.

In 2009, the Hospital celebrated its 175th anniversary.

Clinics and Departments

Today, the hospital is the right of the Isar from 33 clinics and departments, 17 institutes and added several Interdisciplinary Centres. The Roman Herzog Cancer Center ( RHCCC ) is dedicated to the improved care of patients with all types of cancers. Each year, over 58,000 patients in several hospitalized and more than 220,000 outpatients. The clinic is led by a four-member executive committee, the medical director, the Commercial Director, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the director of nursing are represented. CEO is the medical director.

Department of Anaesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology (Director Eberhard Kochs ) has the following departments:

  • Anesthesia ( perioperative care by 120 physicians / doctors and 50 nurses ), anesthesia for interventional and diagnostic procedures, emergency operations and emergency room management
  • Intensive Care Medicine in close interdisciplinary collaboration with the departments of surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, trauma surgery, orthopedics, urology, ear, nose and throat medicine, oral and maxillo -facial surgery, the neurosurgical clinic of the neurological clinic, the Women's Clinic and the Department of Ophthalmology
  • Pain ( Acute Pain Center and the Center for Interdisciplinary Pain Medicine ( CIS)

Since 1954 existed at the Klinikum Rechts der Isar, a Division of Anesthesiology in 1972 then saw the establishment of the Chair and Institute of Anaesthesiology the Technical University of Munich, Klinikum rechts der Isar. The goal was no longer alone patient care, but also the research and teaching in this field. In 1980, recognition was granted as a training center for nurses in anesthesia and intensive treatment by the German Hospital Association.

Department of Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology ( Prof. Dr. med. Dr. ( Lond ) Chris Patrick Lohmann has a total of 25 beds in two stations. According to the renovation of the clinic and the construction of the eye surgery in 2009, the station was re- designed.

  • Development of a robot -assisted micromanipulation system for vitreoretinal surgery
  • Development of a biosynthetic cornea as an alternative to donor corneas
  • Replacement of the glass body by thermo-sensitive hydrogels
  • Development of a hydrogel retina patches for closing and for treating retinal defects and complications thereof

Department of Neurosurgery

The Department of Neurosurgery (Director Bernhard Meyer) since March 2007 part of the same year the newly established Neuro- head - center. Clinical priorities are:

  • Neuro-Oncology
  • Skull Base Surgery
  • Vascular disease of the brain
  • Spine surgery
  • Functional Neurosurgery

It has three wards with a total of 58 beds and an additional 6 intensive care beds as well as a variable number of pool beds and a recovery room.

In the research, the main focal points in the region of said clinic focuses, on the other hand maintains the Neuro- head - center its own research section for basic research in the field of experimental neurosurgery and is working in an interdisciplinary manner with other research areas together. Are offered courses in the pre-clinical training, the surgical block and surgical internship and neurosurgical lecture series.

Construction

The hospital is continuously expanded with new buildings. So since the new millennium emerged, inter alia, following new buildings:

  • Institute of Microbiology and Virology ( 2005)
  • Neuro- head center ( 2006)
  • Interdisciplinary Research Building (2007)

  • New building for Sports Medicine (2013 )

The main campus of the hospital, the Department of Dermatology and Allergology, the Competence Center for Complementary Medicine and Naturopathy ( KoKoNat ) and the Department of Child and Adolescent Medicine are located in several locations in the city.

Research and teaching

At the Medical Faculty of the Technical University studying approximately 1,350 students in 2013. To promote the continuous improvement of teaching, was founded with a TUM Medical Center for Education Research and teaching. The medical school accepts each year from over 200 doctoral examinations and about 40 postdoctoral thesis. The focus of research at the Hospital are tumor development and individualized treatment, Infection and Immunity, Molecular Imaging and allergy, environment and nutrition. Here, the Klinikum rechts der Isar works closely with other research institutions such as the Helmholtz Centre or the Max Planck Institutes. The Science Council has to apply for " Translatum - Research Center for Translational Oncology " approved.

Training

The Care Management is a school of nursing affiliated, in which the training for / m Anesthesia Technical Assistant / in ( ATA) or / m Operation Technical Assistant / in (OTA ) can be completed.

Organ donation scandal

In the context of organ donation scandal prosecutors determined due to irregularities in the allocation of donor livers in the Klinikum rechts der Isar. On 21 February 2013, the hospital confirmed that the employment relationship was terminated with the chief physician of the surgical clinic. On May 15, 2013 announced the Bavarian state government that the hospital was expected to lose their approval for liver transplantation in early June.
