Reclam de xeremies

The xeremia or xeremia eivissenca is a traditional wind instrument in Ibiza. It is a single or double reed pipe.

Traditionally a ideoglottes single-reed is attached with a smaller diameter at the upper end of the pipe game. In more recent times can be cut directly into the game the pipe surcharge tongue, in such a way that the vibrating end facing up ( anaglott as the Turkish Sipsi ). Match pipe and tube sheet are made from giant reed ( Arundo donax ), which is at least a year old. Finger holes and simple ornaments are branded with a hot iron.

Instruments with two chanters hot Reclam de xeremies ( " Schalmeienruf / shawms game" ) or xeremia bessona ( " Doppelschalmei "). The chanters of this double instruments traditionally have four finger holes on the top and a thumb hole. The same distances of the finger holes are determined by eye or by the width of the fingers. This results in almost always a halbtonlose ( anhemitonisch ) pentatonic scale. In modern versions the thumb hole can be omitted. Previously, the two sound tubes were connected by small lumps of lead, today they are often tied together.

The instrument was originally used as a signaling instrument of shepherds. It has a strong, cutting sound. Traditionally, the xeremia eivissenca is blown into circular breathing. Also the doubled instruments are played in unison, that is, the fingers cover the holes at the same time both playing pipes. In contrast to the Egyptian Arghul or the Sardinian launeddas the enamored wind instrument has no drone.
