Red Box (band)

Red Box was an active in the 1980s British New Wave duo.

Career

Red Box was founded in 1982 with the original five members, consisting of Simon Toulson -Clarke (vocals, guitar), Julian Close ( saxophone ), Martin Nickson (drums), Rob Legge (bass) and Paddy Talbot (keyboards). Shortly after the release of their debut single Chenko in 1983 the band split up, and Simon Toulson -Clarke and Julian Close went on as a duo. The new direction of Red Box was now very heavily influenced by the synth-pop, and after their second single Saskatchewan ( a cover version of Buffy Sainte -Marie song ) brought them a record deal with WEA.

In 1985 her single Lean On Me (Ah -Li - Ayo ) which could be placed at # 3 in the UK and number 27 in Germany. Unusual was the music video in which a sign language interpreter translated the lyrics in sign language.

In 1986, she published with the help of several guest musicians their first album The Circle and the Square. However, many American radio stations boycotted the decoupled Single For America, because here the presence of American forces was criticized in Grenada and Nicaragua. As expected, the song flopped in the U.S., but in England and other European charts so that they could post their second Top Ten hit.

In 1990 a second album entitled " motives ". 1991 disbanded Red Box and Simon Toulson -Clarke has now launched a new project named Plenty to life.
