The Red- woods Salamander ( Plethodon jordani ) is a salamander from the species-rich family of the lung lots Salamander ( Plethodontidae ).
Features
The Red- forest salamander has a 8.5 to 18.5 centimeters long, slender body and a head with protruding eyes. Red spots are located on the otherwise black skin on the cheeks and legs. The tail, from the danger at a hideous -tasting mucus is released, can also be dropped.
Habitat and behavior
The Red- forest salamander lives in the southern Appalachian Mountains of the United States. Its diet consists of centipedes, beetles and insect larvae.
The male plant each year, the females every two years away.
Endangering
The Red- forest salamander is listed in the IUCN Red List as "low risk" ( near threatened ).
