Red Lorry Yellow Lorry

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry is a rock band founded in Leeds, England in 1981.

Band History

The band was (later in The Mission boarding ) founded by Chris Reed (guitar, songwriting ) and the former vocalist Mark Sweeney, along with bassist Steve Smith and drummer Mick Brown. Sweeney left the band in the same year, and Reed took over from there to the vocals. Furthermore, came as a second guitarist Martin Fagan added. The sound of the band consisted of numbing droning guitars, pounding drums and powerful Reeds hollow -sounding vocals.

In 1982 offered the manager of Lorries, Dave Hall, the label Red Rhino Records a demo tape to. The Lorries were enthusiastically taken under contract. Beating My Head was pressed on the successful debut single, without any change from the demo recording.

Fagan and Smith soon left the band and was replaced by Dave Wolfenden and Paul Southern. Wolfenden was, with frequent changes of occupation, a constant, and was frequently Reed's partner in songwriting. In the years 1983 and 1984, several singles were released, including " He's Read" and " Monkeys On Juice". From John Peel supported early on they took in March and November 1983 two radio sessions on with him.

The band's debut album, " Talk About the Weather " was released in 1985 and went straight to number 3 of the NME indie rock album chart. Many fans consider this album as the best of Lorries, it got mostly good reviews and sold for the release of a smaller labels amazingly well, as the following singles " Chance" and "Spinning Round". The latter is often considered to be the best title.

On this label, the Lorries released a further album called " Paint Your Wagon", which also reached # 3 in the NME indie charts. After another Fehlschägen the band was dropped from the label.

Blasting off (1991 ) was then re- published by a smaller label ( Spark Head ). If applies succeeded as much the advance single from the " Talking Back ", most fans found the plate rather disappointing. According badly outsold them. At this time, Reed broke up the band.

2003 Reed breathed " Red Lorry Yellow Lorry " a new life and brought in 2004 four new songs out on the web site of the band, however, are only available as a download. in 2004 and 2004 they toured to publish without further new material by the United Kingdom. 2005, a live DVD was released from a concert in Belgium during the European tour in 2004.
