Maylandia estherae

Maylandia estherae (syn. Pseudotropheus estherae ) is an African cichlid, which is endemic to the Mozambique coast of Lake Malawi. He is one of the Mbuna and lives on the rocky shores of the lake. Like other mbuna it feeds on algae and is a mouth brooders.

Features

Maylandia estherae is 11 to 13 inches long. There are three different color forms:

  • B- morphs: The males are blue to light blue with a hint of horizontal stripes. The females are brownish with dark stripes.
  • O- morphs: The males are pink to whitish, the females are bright orange colored to red.
  • OB morphs: males and females are orange - spotted black.

The fin tips of the pelvic fins and the anal fin are all color forms mostly bluish. On the anal fin there are up to eleven yellow egg spots.
