Redhead Day

The Rothaarigentag (Dutch Roodharigendag ) is on the first weekend of September, held annually since 2007, event in the Dutch city of Breda. The purpose of this event is that people come together with natural red hair, and the phenomenon and the art is promoted around red hair. The event is unique and attracts visitors from all over the world. For each event each year is selected a theme and a color. The traditional group photo of the redhead's clothing is made in the same color. During the two -day event, lectures, workshops and demonstrations take place which are aimed specifically at red-haired people. Participation in the event is free of charge through the sponsorship of the local government and its partners.

2005

The painter and organizer Bart Rouwenhorst examined in 2005 in the small Dutch town of buttons with an ad in the newspaper 15 redhead women and girls as models for his paintings. Because to find models was problematic because redhead in the Netherlands are rare - only 2 % of the population have natural red hair.

The response to the ad was tremendous. And so Rouwenhorst decided together with Jan Eijsbouts, owner of the cultural center InDeBrouwerij to organize a real Rothaarigentag.

The first Rothaarigentag took place Asten on 24 September 2005. On this day there were several photo shoots, brought opera singer Annelie Brinkhof their voices heard, and there were group photos of 150 redhead made ​​on a hoist.

2007

On 2 September 2007, the second Rothaarigentag took place. The interest was much greater this time; 800 redheads gathered in Breda.

In the church, there were exhibitions of 16 photographers and a painter with a total of 85 works of art. In addition, there was an exhibition of paintings and a photo exhibition. The scientist Tim spiral gave a lecture on the origin and the medical importance of red hair, from the genetic backgrounds to myths and facts that are known about redheads. Several cafés and restaurants organized extras such as a belly dance workshop or free chocolate or strawberries. There were also several free photo shoots from various photographers.

The big photo shoot in Valkenbergpark was the highlight of the day. Here were 581 redhead model for various group photos by Bart Rouwenhorst and by the media, who recorded the event.

2008

On 7 September 2008, the third Rothaarigentag took place with dozens of redheads from 15 countries.

An art committee 40 artists were selected during the RH08 -expo from 24 August to 7 September to show their works. The theme of this exhibition was " Red hair, freckles, redhead and identity." Ahead of Rothaarigentag 2008, the artistic director Jos Vogelpoel opened on 24 August, RH08 Art Exhibition in the Great Church of Breda. Forty artists from different disciplines exhibited their works here. The exhibition was on Rothaarigentag, 7 September 2008 visited.

As in previous years held Breda artist and the intellectual father of the Rothaarigentags, Bart Rouwenhorst, a great photo shoot from, all redheads present together went on an image. In addition, the day was filled with creative, musical and culinary activities.

2009

On 5 and 6 September 2009, the fourth Rothaarigentag took place.

According to the organizers, more than 4,300 redhead and their families from 36 countries, including participants from the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Denmark, Germany, Isle of Man, Israel, Jersey, Canada, Croatia, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Ukraine, United States and New Zealand.

The group photo was resumed in Valkenbergpark. In addition, there was also a fashion show of different designers, music performances, lectures, photo shoots and much more. More than a hundred German newspapers and some TV crews, including the BBC, reported on the event.

2010

On September 4th and 5th 2010 5th Rothaarigentag took place in Breda.

According to the organizers, was attended by more than 5,000 redhead and their families from 46 countries, including participants from Argentina, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Mexico, Qatar and South Africa.

The highlight was the group photo on September 5. This time were television crews present from even more countries, including a Russian news channel. A characteristic feature of the event was the further internationalization. Always so that more people come out of the rest of the world, the event was an international atmosphere. There were groups of Germans, Italians and French, who expressed with T -shirts and flags, from whence they came. The seven hotels in the city center of Breda were all booked this weekend.

2011

On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th September 2011, the sixth Rothaarigentag 2011 took place.

This event took three days for the first time.

On Friday evening, September 2, there was an informal opening of the organizers and a number of guests from Germany, England, Ireland, the Netherlands and the United States.

Although rain was predicted, the turnout was as high as in 2010., The number of photo shoots was extensive.

2012

From August 31 to September 2, 2012 7 Rothaarigentag took place in Breda again.

  • The theme for the Rothaarigentag 2012 was " by nature " ( " By Nature ").
  • As a color of T -shirts for the group photo Green was selected.

The event was opened on Friday with a party at the Mezz.

Here is a shortened version of the documentary Being Ginger has been shown and the band played " Convoy Exceptional".

During this event, the world record, " redhead in one place" was broken in 1255 with redheads who were together for 10 minutes.

This year came, according to the organizers 4000-5000 redhead from more than 60 countries. There were also media representatives from around the world traveled to Breda, including a television crew from Australia.
