Rondeletia bicolor

The Rotmäuligen Walkopffische ( Rondeletia ) are a two types of species of deep-sea fish, which alone forms the family Rondeletiidae. Your big head is box-shaped, naked skin, the lateral line is reduced to a few pores. Dorsal and anal fin sit symmetrically to one another far back on the body, just before the tail fin.

Species

  • Rondeletia bicolor, Goode & Bean, 1895, lives in the western Atlantic from North Carolina to Suriname at depths up to 3000 meters.
  • Rondeletia loricata, Abe & Hotta, 1963 lives, worldwide in tropical and subtropical areas of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans at depths up to 1100 meters.

Both types are 11 inches long and have 24 to 27 vertebrae.
