Reduta Theatre

The Reduta Theatre on herb market in Brno is one of the oldest venues in Europe.

History

1605 here the urban, New Tavern was built in the Renaissance style. From the 1660s to regular performances were given. In the 1730s, the Reduta was remodeled and expanded for theatrical performances and dance events. They played mainly German and Italian pieces. 1767 performed a concert with his sister Nanerl the eleven-year old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Fires destroyed the theater again and again and made for such conversions. After a major fire in the year 1767-1768, the city built the building in classical style again. The main hall then handed over the two upper floors. After another fire in 1870, the theater was converted to an urban market hall and only the concert and ball hall used.

The destroyed in World War II building was reconstructed in the 1950s after plans of the architect Bohuslav Fuchs for the Czech operetta scene. Early 1990s it was closed due to poor condition. After the renovation in 2005, it serves as one of the three venues of the National Theatre in Brno.
