Refuge Jean-Antoine Carrel

The Rifugio Jean-Antoine Carrel is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Valais Alps. It lies at an altitude of 3830 m in the valley Valtournenche at Lion's Ridge of the Matterhorn in Valtournenche. The cabin is not staffed, but is open all year and offers at this time 50 climbers sleeps. It is located on the Italian normal route to the Matterhorn.

Rise

The climb to the hut begins in Breuil -Cervinia and initially leads to Rifugio Duca degli Abruzzi, which one happened around 1 ¾ hours. After a further 4 ¼ and a total of 6 hours, you finally reached to a challenging final climb in the way (difficulty D) Rifugio Jean- Antoine Carrel.

History

The Bivouac Luigi Amedeo di Savoia was built not far from the site of present-day early in 1905. The origins of today's cottage dates back to the year 1969. This building was in the years 2002 - 2003 and has since been expanded in the state known today. The hut was dedicated to the climber Jean -Antoine Carrel.

The old Bivouac Luigi Amedeo di Savoia is now a museum, office and as an emergency shelter.
