Regin Dahl

Regin Dahl ( born November 5, 1918 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, † March 29, 2007 in Copenhagen ) was one of the most important Faroese poets and composers.

Dahl was born at the vicarage Sandagerði in Tórshavn. His father was the Provost Jákup Dahl, his mother Mary, nee Hansen ( 1878-1944 ). He had three older sisters and three of his own daughters.

At the age of 15 years, Dahl went to Denmark, where in 1937 he graduated from high school. He lived only a short time in the Faroe Islands, but was much with Exilfäringern together in Denmark and always wrote in Faroese. In addition to her own poems, he also wrote the music to the works of other poets, notably Hans Andrias Djurhuus. There are about 400 compositions on tape.

The renowned Danish Gyldendal Dahl worked as a lecturer and was also responsible for publishing the Danish poet. At the age blind, he last lived in a home for the blind in Haderslev.

Dahl was honored in 1973 and 1979, twice the Literature Prize of the Faroe Islands. In 1985 he was nominated as the first Faroese for the collection of poems Eftirtorvnzum Literature Prize of the Nordic Council, he but did not get. In addition, he was the first recipient of the 1998 Mentanarvirðisløn Landsins the country's culture price of the Faroe Islands.
