Regina Weber

Regina Weber- Sane ( born April 12, 1963 in Winsen ( Luhe) ) is a former German gymnast. The multiple German champion is still the only Olympic medalist in rhythmic gymnastics from Germany.

Career

In the 1970s, Carmen Generic was the outstanding German gymnast. The seamstress Regina Weber took over from this and was in the 1980s, the dominant athlete in Germany this sport. At the World Championships in Munich in 1981 Weber came in tenth place in 1983 in Strasbourg, she was eighth. 1984 was the rhythmic gymnastics for the first time on the Olympic program. After the Olympics boycott of the Eastern Bloc were only three athletes who were placed in 1983 in Strasbourg in the top ten in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles: the Romanian Doina Stăiculescu, the Spaniard Marta Regina Bobo and Weber. These three athletes were then also in the favorite position. While the Spaniard blundered and ultimately finished only 9th place, grew to 23 from Strasbourg, the Canadian Lori Fung beyond itself and won gold before Stăiculescu and Weber.

In German Championships won - which then starting for Lüneburg - Regina Weber 1978 their first title. Later she moved to TV Wattenscheid. In 1981, she lost with clubs against Carmen -driven, but won the other four titles. After the career

Until the 1990s Weber was seen in the German commercial television in commercials for the mineral water Apollinaris. After the career she studied design and marketing together with her husband Souleyman Sané a self-designed sports apparel collection. She is now a teacher at the school Maria Sibylla Merian School Wattenscheid
