Regional Bus and Rail Company of Canton Ticino

The Ferrovie autolinee regionali ticinesi, FART for short, is a semi-public transport and tourism companies in the Swiss canton of Ticino, based in Locarno. The share capital is held 51.40 % by the Canton of Ticino, to 34.14 % of the Swiss Confederation and to 7.75% of municipalities. The remaining 6.71% are privately owned.

The FART operates

  • The Cento Valli web
  • The small cable car Intragna - Pila - Costa ( cantonal license ) and
  • The small cable car Verdasio - Rasa ( cantonal license ).

The Cento Valli track is part of an international rail connection between the Gotthard Railway in Locarno and the Simplon railway in Domodossola (Italy). This track is on the Italian side ( in Vigezzo ) by its own company of Societa di Subalpina imprese ferroviarie ( SSIF ) operated. However, the vehicles of the two companies are jointly in use.

The company was originally called Ferrovie Regionali Ticinesi (FRT ). It was renamed by resolution of the General Meeting of 30 June 1961 in Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi ( FART ). The FRT took over in 1923 the Società Tramvie Elettriche Locarnesi (STL ) and 1952 ( AGM resolution of 30 May), it merged (financially) retroactively to January 1, 1949 ( although for 1950 Annual Report was published ) with the Locarno Ponte Brolla - Bignasco -Bahn (LPB ) to satisfy the conditions for receipt of the private rail federal aid.

On April 24, 1960 the tram Locarno, led by Minusio Esplanade after Solduno, and until 1932 the Church of San Antonio, is set.
