Regla Torres

Regla Torres Herrera Radameris ( born February 12, 1975 in Havana ) is a Cuban former volleyball national team.

Regla Torres won with Cuba three times in a row, the gold medal at the Olympic Games from 1992 to 2000, as well as two gold medals at the World Championships in 1994 and 1998. The Volleyball World Grand Prix won it in 1993 and 2000, in the intervening years, three silver and two bronze. At the Pan American Games she won the 1991 and 1995 gold, 1999 silver. In addition, she was awarded at several international competitions individual honors as the best striker, Blocker and Most Valuable Player ( MVP - including at the 1994 World Cup ). In 1992, she was 17 years old, the youngest volleyball player who ever won an Olympic gold medal.

Regla Torres, she was awarded as the best player of the 20th century in 2000 by the World Volleyball FIVB. In 2001, she was inducted into the "Volleyball Hall of Fame".

Torres is 1,91 m tall and played in the middle block, and occasionally diagonal. Your tee height reached unto the 3.30 m.

With the approval of the Cuban Sports Association INDIANS she could play as a professional athlete in Italy 1997-2000 (Modena, Perugia ), and again in 2005 /2006 ( Padua ), whereas Cuban athletes from other disciplines (eg baseball and boxing ) was categorically forbidden.

After the 2000 Olympic Games took Torres knee problems to create. So she had at many international competitions fit, but still played among others in the Italian League 2005/ 06 in Padua, where they ended the season prematurely despite very good statistics in January 2006.

After finishing her playing career, she returned to Cuba, where she has since worked as a trainer of the province selection of capital and as an assistant coach of the national team. They also came while playing the Volleyball World League as a commentator for the Cuban radio for use.
