Regulator gene

Regulatory gene as a gene is known in the genetic coding for a repressor protein.

A regulatory gene coding for either an active repressor that only in the presence of a specific substrate ( inducer) is inactive, such as the lactose operon, or coding for an inactive repressor which is active only in the presence of a specific product, such as in the tryptophan operon.
