Regulon

Regulon as is known in the genetics a group of independent genes ( or operon ), whose transcription is controlled by a common regulator ( repressor and activator).

Examples

  • Catabolite repression: The activator CAP ( catabolite activator protein), activated in the presence of cAMP, inter alia, transcription of the lactose operon ( lac operon ).
  • Another example of the tryptophan repressor ( TrpR ) in the genome of the bacterium is Escherichia coli. The protein represses transcription of its own not only the trpR gene and the tryptophan of the trp operon, but also the transcription of the aroH gene. The latter encodes for proteins required by the cell for synthesis of all of the aromatic amino acids.
