Reiherstieg means a navigable tributary of the Elbe in Hamburg. He is leaving the Southern Elbe at river kilometer 615 against the Harburg port, cuts through the western part of the Elbinsel William Castle, separates the districts of Steinwerder and Small Grasbrookhafen and ends after seven kilometers over the St. Pauli landing bridges in the North Elbe.

It originated during the 14th and 15th century, when after severe storm surges the Elbinsel Gorieswerder was separated into several islands, and flowed with many tributaries between the islands Hohe Schaar, Langer morning, Neuhof and Ross to the left bank and Rothaus, Reiherstieg country, Klütjenfeld, the later zusammengedeichten as William Burg islands in the Fleth, which led in turn to the Köhlbrand.
