Rein Raud

Rein Raud ( born December 21, 1961 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian writer and Japanese studies.

Life and work

Rein Raud was born the son of Estonian writer Eno Raud (1928-1996) and Aino Pervik (* 1932). His grandfather was the writer Mart Raud ( 1903-1980 ).

Rein Raud put 1980 in Tallinn from his high school. Subsequently, he studied until 1985 at the University of Leningrad Japanese Studies. From 1989 to 1995 Raud was a lecturer in Japanese language and culture at Humanitaarinstituut in Tallinn, then professor of Japanese language and culture at the University of Helsinki. From 1992 to 1996, Raud President of the Estonian PEN Club from 2006 to 2011, he was rector of the University of Tallinn.

Rein Raud is one of the most prolific Estonian journalist, translator, poet and writer of his generation. He has published numerous poems, novels and short stories. His novel Hector yes Bernhard received the 2005 Annual Award of the State Foundation Kultuurkapital.

Private life

Rein Raud is married to the Lettin Rosita Raud. The couple has a son and a daughter.
